Face Forward #5

Welcome… eventually!

I did promise to continue the Face Forward series in 2023, but I missed the deadline for quarterly updates. This year has taken a big bite out of my ability and energy to blog. I really want to get back into it, so here we are, softly softly rebooting, going through my beauty trash for the first half of the year.

Let’s start with a small batch I used up while on tour in Adelaide, which I promptly returned to the local Sephora for Terracycle points.

Next up… a mixed bag. The top row were products I used up. The bottom row are products I decided to throw out during a declutter. Many of them had decent progress, but I knew I didn’t really want to persist with using them, so out they went. A note though - the L’Oreal Skin Paradise Water Tint is very nice, and I was mostly chucking that because it had been open for a long time. The No7 is also nice, but again, I’ve had that open since first buying it in Scotland while doing the Fringe in 2019. Also - I bought two at the time, so I figured it was time to throw that one and start work on the second.

Of course, I’ve bought more foundations in the four years since Fringe, so God help me in trying to use many of them up! Although you will notice a Morphe Skin Tint in the used row - that is actually a half-decent formula. It was quite light and thin, so I often used it mixed in with other foundations to either thin or brighten the colour. It worked well as a mixing medium, so again, I would consider repurchasing in the distant future.

The next one is pretty much ALL fully used product - the only one I know I didn’t use fully up was that Revlon Colourstay Lite foundation. It was OK, but again, I’ve just got so many I was deliberately culling.

I’ve been really conscientiously using up hair products this year - trying not to buy lots of shampoos and conditioners and work through what I have. I’ve also got a few purple shampoos for blonde hair that take more time to use because they can be quite drying on the hair so you don’t want to use them every wash.

And finally, a great collection to finish the half-year. Happy to finish a bunch of serums and moisturisers - I now have to do a bit of rethinking about my regular skincare routine for the rest of 2023. Some of these were also smaller products I took with me away to both Port Vila (my first trip abroad since the previously mentioned trip to Scotland in 2019!) and then to a show in Townsville.

Of course, even in the first few weeks of July, I’ve used up more stuff. I’ll be on tour again in September and October this year, so I’m looking forward to both getting through some stuff in August, then targeting products to take with me and use up while away.
